A Limit for Antler Length in Captive Marals International Journal of Morphology
Korzhikenova,N; Sambetbaev,A; Iglikov,O; Parés-Casanova,P. M.
The main aim of this study was to estimate phenotypic correlations among live weight, withers height, rump height, chest depth, chest width, thoracic girth, body length, hip widths (between iliac tuberosities and between ischial tuberosities) and forelimb cannon perimeter with antler length measured during the growth of marals on a Kazakh farm. The data comprised 18 animals studied during their growth (at 18 months and at 24 months). In maral, the first period of antler productivity takes place at the age of 24 months. This fact should be taken into account in order to select the best animals for antler production, which is the main purpose for farming this species.

ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN TRAITS IN FISÁLIS: A TOOL FOR INDIRECT SELECTION OF SUPERIOR PLANTS Rev. Bras. Frutic.
TREVISANI,NICOLE; MELO,RITA CAROLINA DE; COLLI,MAURO PORTO; COIMBRA,JEFFERSON LUÍS MEIRELLES; GUIDOLIN,ALTAMIR FREDERICO.
ABSTRACT Knowledge about associations between traits is fundamental for plant breeding, since indirect selection can accelerate the development of promising genotypes. This study assessed the magnitude of associations between agronomically important traits in fisális (Physalis peruviana L). The experiment was conducted in Lages, Santa Catarina, and the treatments consisted of six fisális populations. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design, with two replications and seven plants per plot. The correlations between traits were estimated based on the Pearson correlation coefficients and partitioned into direct and indirect effects through path analysis. Fruit weight was positively correlated with number of seeds (0.874), equatorial fruit...

Correlation and path analysis of agronomic and morphological traits in maize Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Tallyta Nayara; Moro,Gustavo Vitti; Moro,Fabíola Vitti; Santos,Durvalina Maria Mathias dos; Buzinaro,Rodolfo.
ABSTRACT The efficiency of selection can be broadened for certain traits using estimative of genetic parameters, which are fundamental for plant breeding. The estimative of genetic parameters allows identifying the nature of the action of genes involved in the control of quantitative traits and evaluates the efficiency of different breeding strategies to obtain genetic gains. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the variability and correlation between morphological and agronomic traits in synthetic maize populations, in order to practice indirect selection. Thirteen populations were evaluated in field experiments at Jaboticabal- SP and Campo Alegre de Goiás-GO, using randomized block design, for lodging (LOD), culm breakage (CB), plant height (PH), ear...

Genetic analysis of fertility traits of Holstein dairy cattle in warm and temperate climate Animal Sciences
Rahbar, Rabie; Aminafshar, Mehdi; Abdullahpour, Rohullah; Chamani, Mohammad.
The edited data set for the estimation of heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlations of fertility traits contained up to 23,402 records from 10,894 cows calved between 2001 and 2015. Heritability estimates for success in first service (FS), gestation length (GL), number of inseminations (NI), insemination outcome (IO), calving interval (CI), calving birth weight (CBW) and days open (DO) were low and ranged between 0.016 (DO) and 0.123 (GL). Repeatability of fertility traits was estimated to vary from 0.021 (FS) to 0.411 (IO). The genetic correlations between DO × CI, DO × NI and CI × NI were positive and nearly perfect (0.98, 0.88 and 0.88, respectively), while those between DO × IO and CI × IO were negative (-0.98 and -1, respectively). Further,...

Genetic variation and correlation of agronomic traits in meadow bromegrass (Bromus riparius Rehm) clones Ciência Rural
Araújo,Marcelo Renato Alves de; Coulman,Bruce.
Meadow bromegrass (Bromus riparius Rehm.) is a recently introduced pasture grass in western Canada. Its leafy production and rapid regrowth have made it a major grass species for pasturing beef animals in this region. As relatively little breeding work has been done on this species, there is little information on its breeding behaviour. The main objective of this study was to estimate total genetic variability, broad-sense heritability, phenotypic and genetic correlations. Forty-four meadow bromegrass clones were evaluated for agronomic characters. Genetic variation for dry matter yield, seed yield, fertility index, harvest index, plant height, plant spread, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber, was significant. Broad-sense...

Phenotypic plasticity of Myzus persicae (Hemíptera: Aphididae) raised on Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala (kale) and Raphanus sativus L. (radish) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Peppe,Fernanda Borja; Lomônaco,Cecília.
The study of variability generated by phenotypic plasticity is crucial for predicting evolutionary patterns in insect-plant systems. Given sufficient variation for plasticity, host race formation can be favored and maintained, even simpatrically. The plasticity of size and performance (assessed by the lifetime fitness index r m) of six clones of Myzus persicae was tested, with replicates allowed to develop on two hosts, kale (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) and radish (Raphanus sativus). The clones showed significant variability in their plasticity. Reaction norms varied through generations and negative genetic correlation, although not significant, tend to increase with the duration of host use. The lack of plasticity in lifetime fitness among generalist...

Production and body composition traits of broilers in relation to breast weight evaluated by path analysis Scientia Agricola
Lorentz,Leandro Homrich; Gaya,Leila de Genova; Lunedo,Raquel; Ferraz,José Bento Sterman; Rezende,Fernanda Marcondes de; Michelan Filho,Tércio.
Breast weight has great economic importance in poultry industry, and may be associated with other variables. This work aimed to estimate phenotypic correlations between performance (live body weight at 7 and 28 days, and at slaughter, and depth of the breast muscle measured by ultrasonography), carcass (eviscerated body weight and leg weight) and body composition (heart, liver and abdominal fat weight) traits in a broiler line, and quantify the direct and indirect influence of these traits on breast weight. Path analysis was used by expanding the matrix of partial correlation in coefficients which give the direct influence of one trait on another, regardless the effect of the other traits. The simultaneous maintenance of live body weight at slaughter and...

Repeatability of morpho-agronomic characters of Theobroma grandiflorum fruits Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Alcoforado,Ayulle Thalía Watson; Pedrozo,Cássia Ângela; Mayer,Marcos Miguel; Lima-Primo,Hyanameyka Evangelista de.
Abstract The objective of this study was to estimate coefficients of repeatability, to determine the minimum number of fruits necessary for genotype selection and to estimate phenotypic correlation coefficients between morpho-agronomic characters of Theobroma grandiflorum fruits. It was evaluated twenty - two genotypes of an agroforestry system implanted in the municipality of Cantá - RR. Ten fruits per genotype were collected and evaluated for longitudinal length, transverse diameter, total weight, peel thickness, peel weight, pulp weight, placental weight and wet seed weight. Four statistical methods were used to estimate the repeatability coefficients: variance analysis, main components based on the correlation matrix and the covariance matrix, and...

Yield loss in sunflower cultivars due to bird attack Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Silva,Paulo Sérgio Lima e; Tomaz,Francisco Linco de Souza; Siqueira,Patrícia Liany de Oliveira Fernandes; Silva,Paulo Igor Barbosa e; Lima,Levi Afonso Cavalcante de.
ABSTRACT Bird attacks on the sunflower may hinder its exploitation in the Brazilian semi-arid region. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different levels of protection (0, 33, 66 and 100%) of the capitula of eight sunflower cultivars, evaluated in randomized blocks with sub-divided plots and four replications. The cultivars were allocated in the plots and the levels of protection in the sub-plots, by covering the capitula with caps of non-woven fabric after physiological maturity. The most frequent bird species was the Paroaria dominicana. The Aguará 06 cultivar was the most productive and most tolerant to bird attack, followed by the Helio 250, CF 101 and Charrua cultivars. There was a positive correlation between yield loss (YL) due to...
